I.G.K. History

Tino Ceberano formed his own organisation, the International Gōju Karatedo (IGK) In May 1989 Kaicho Gogen Yamaguchi died aged 81. In 1990 Goshi Yamaguchi (3rd Son of the Master), a long time friend of Sensei Ceberano, took over the reins of the Goju Kai and had been given the title of Siko Shihan and supposedly to the rank of 10th Dan.

A meeting of senior Gōju Kai officials under the Siko Shihan rendered the independence of Tino Ceberano as an alternative choice for his well known contribution to the Goju Kai.

It was at this point in time as to how and what transpired in Sensei Ceberano’s forming of his organisation: the International Gōju Karatedo -I.G.K., formed with the intentions, determination, and advancement maintaining of the truly traditional Style of Goju Karate aiming to maintain the traditional roots from which Goju stems.

In the years following this transition of development in the Martial Arts study, a new cultural method has been acknowledged where the Arts of every discipline and study of this creative and most important methods of advancement became a thorough study with every aspect of reason and to the benefit as acknowledge in our modern world as a science with proven motivational and compliment to Human Resource activities, training of human values, and of recent the inner study to its philosophical attributes…’The way of the Warrior’.

The I.G.K. has now come to stand for the “International Goju Kobujutsu Kenkyukai” or International Goju Traditional Martial Art Research Society. The dojos in Australia associated with I.G.K. maintain strict and rigorous standards of excellence in training.

Tino Ceberano Hanshi is still actively teaching and mentoring internationally and is a highly accomplished martial artist having studied multiple styles having now brought reasons for the integrating study to enhance and give rationalized contribution to the words that is now evident to the I.G.K.

Hanshi meets regularly with the senior instructors to ensure they are continually delivering Goju karate, as originally formulated as well as increasing their knowledge in complimentary styles. With several dojos in different Australian states, Hanshi’s legacy lives on.
